A delegation from Palestinian faction Fatah will take part in the funeral of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in Qatar on Friday, the movement said today.

Deputy Chairman of the movement, Mahmoud Al-Aloul, and the Secretary of its central committee, Jibril Rajoub, are both due to attend the ceremony.

Fatah had condemned Haniyeh’s assassination, describing it as a “cowardly act.”

The movement’s leader, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, described Haniyeh as “the great leader” and said he considered his targeting as “a cowardly act and a dangerous development.”

Hamas announced today that Haniyeh’s funeral ceremony will be held in the Iranian capital, Tehran, tomorrow, before his body is transferred to the Qatari capital, Doha, for funeral prayers and burial on Friday.

Haniyeh was assassinated in what the movement said was a “treacherous Zionist raid” on his residence in Tehran, after he participated in the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian president.

Iranian state television also reported the killing of Haniyeh in Tehran, explaining that “the investigation into the assassination is ongoing and the results will be announced soon.”

The Israeli army refused to comment on the assassination.
