A left-wing Spanish Member of the European Parliament urged the government in Madrid today to suspend diplomatic relations with Israel, Anadolu has reported. Irene Montero of the PODEMOS party made her comment when writing on X about the Israeli attack on prominent Hezbollah commander Fouad Shukr in Beirut.

“They are not going to stop, and Europe must stop being complicit in these genocides,” said Montero. Reiterating her call for an arms embargo against Israel, she urged the Spanish government to seize the ship carrying fuel for Israeli forces, which is currently in Spanish waters, to prevent it from reaching the occupation state.

The Israeli military bombed southern Beirut on Tuesday, targeting Shukr in apparent retaliation for Saturday’s attack on the Druze town of Majdal Shams in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. While Israel blamed Hezbollah for the attack, the Lebanese movement denied responsibility.

The Lebanese Health Ministry said at least three people were killed and 74 others injured in the Israeli strike on Beirut.
