Flash floods killed 15 people and affected 10,000 others on Friday in the Maqbanah district of Taiz, southwest Yemen, according to a report released by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

OCHA said torrential rains and floods have also buried more than 80 wells, swept away agricultural lands and damaged homes and infrastructure. It added that aid agencies are responding to urgent needs amid difficulties in access and lack of funding for rapid response.

For days, the amount of heavy rainfall has increased in several governorates, including Taiz, causing great damage and human losses.

Yemen’s National Centre of Meteorology has issued a warning of possible continuing rainstorms across the country, advising people to keep away from flood paths.
