Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman has reportedly told visiting US Congress members that he fears being assassinated if he agrees to normalisation with Israel.

Politico reported that Bin Salman has recently expressed many concerns and doubts about agreeing to normalisation with Israel. Despite his interest in a comprehensive agreement with the United States, part of which will be normalisation with the occupation state, he fears for his life if he goes ahead with Israel without concessions being granted to the Palestinians.

“The way [Bin Salman] put it, Saudi citizens care very deeply about this issue, and the Middle East street across the region cares deeply about this,” explained a source familiar with the situation to Politico. “His tenure as the guardian of Islam’s holy sites will not be secure, believes the prince, if he doesn’t address what is the most pressing issue of justice in the region.”

Over the past few months, Bin Salman has reportedly concluded that, “There is no possibility of stability in the Middle East without a solution to the Palestinian issue.” Nevertheless, he remains committed to a comprehensive agreement with the US, which he sees as essential for the kingdom’s survival because it would include a clause guaranteeing US protection.
