The Israeli Foreign Ministry yesterday warned its citizens against travel to Turkiye, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, which have common borders with Iran, and called on them to be vigilant and exercise caution.

The ministry said the warning “follows growing threats from the Iranian efforts and its proxies to harm state symbols and Israeli citizens.”

“Since the beginning of the war [on the besieged Gaza Strip], Iran has been exerting effort to hit Israeli targets around the world,” the ministry said.

“However, concerns grew after the Islamic Republic threatened to attack Israel following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran,” it added.

Since the assassination of Haniyeh and Hezbollah’s military commander, Fuad Shukr, at the end of last month, the Israeli Foreign Ministry has raised the security alert to the highest level and instructed diplomats to adhere to strict security guidelines, while some officials have been told not to attend public events, ordered to work from home or had other limitations issued to them, according to the same source.

Israel has claimed responsibility for Shukr’s assassination but has not commented on Haniyeh’s murder, however both Hamas and Iran have said he was killed in a “Zionist plot”.
