Israel’s National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, yesterday demanded State Attorney Amit Aisman be dismissed after he demanded a criminal investigation be opened into pop singer Eyal Golan on suspicion of incitement to violence, after the musician called to “erase Gaza”.
On 15 October, a week after Israel launched its devastating war against the besieged Gaza Strip, Golan was performing for Israeli soldiers in the field when he called to “erase Gaza” and “not leave a single person there,” according to the Kan public broadcaster.
Aisman recommended Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara open a criminal investigation against Golan on charges of incitement to violence.
In response, Ben-Gvir said that Aisman should be dismissed, accusing him of bias against Israeli interests, and called on the justice minister and the prime minister to discuss his dismissal at the next cabinet meeting.
“Instead of investing his efforts in the Israeli war effort, Aisman is investing his efforts in [Hamas chief] Sinwar’s war effort,” claimed Ben-Gvir.
In July, Aisman recommended Ben-Gvir be investigated on charges of incitement against Palestinians in Gaza.
