Algeria is ready to build three field hospitals in Gaza if the border between Egypt and the enclave is reopened, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said on Sunday.

Speaking at a rally ahead of the presidential elections scheduled to be held on 7 September, Tebboune said: “If they open the borders between Egypt and Gaza, we know what to do. The army is ready as soon as the borders [Rafah crossing] are opened… we will build 3 hospitals within 20 days.”

He told his supporters that he is also ready “to send hundreds of doctors to Gaza and help rebuild what the Zionists destroyed.”

He said what is happening in Gaza “is not a civilised war, but rather massacres committed by the Zionist occupation.”

Adding that they want to solve the Palestinian issue by “liquidating the Palestinians, which is what we will not accept.”

The incumbent president is running alongside two other candidates, Abdelali Hassani Cherif of the Movement of Society for Peace (MSP) and Youcef Aouchiche of the National Secretary of the Socialist Forces Front (FFS).
