Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah announced on Sunday the success of the military response to Israel’s assassination of the party’s senior commander, Fuad Shukr, accusing Tel Aviv of “lying and failing.”

In the early hours of Sunday, the Israeli army and Hezbollah engaged in their most extensive exchange of fire since the mutual bombardment began along the ‘Blue Line’ on 8 October, according to an Anadolu correspondent.

In a televised address, Nasrallah stated: “We identified the Glilot base as a primary target for our operation. It houses Unit 8200, responsible for eavesdropping and espionage activities, and is located 110 kilometres from the Lebanese border and only 1,500 metres from Tel Aviv.”

He continued: “Our data indicates that a significant number of drones reached the designated targets, but the enemy, as usual, remains secretive.”

Hezbollah’s announcement came shortly after the Israeli army attacked southern Lebanon with a large-scale airstrike that it called a “preemptive strike,” claiming to have prevented Hezbollah from launching an attack.

Nasrallah emphasised that “no resistance platform was hit before the operation commenced. The resistance launched 340 rockets, followed by launching many successful drones despite the airstrikes. None of the launching platforms sustained any damage, neither before nor after the operation.”
