The Jordanian Armed Forces announced yesterday that preparations are underway to launch a specialised women’s hospital in Khan Yunis, located in the southern Gaza Strip, Quds Press reported.
In a press conference held at Sheikh Hussein Bridge, Military Media Director Mustafa Al-Hiyari stated that the hospital “will include most women’s specialities, such as surgery and obstetrics, with the opening date to be announced once preparations are complete.”
Al-Hiyari added that “Jordanian field hospitals in southern Gaza have treated over 175,000 cases since the outbreak of the war, with operations commencing on 20 November 2023.”

Launched on 26 August, the initiative to support amputees in Gaza aims to address the growing number of injuries resulting from Israel’s ongoing bombing campaign. The initiative seeks to meet the increasing demand for life-saving amputations, which exceed the capacity that Gaza’s hospitals can handle.
According to estimates by UNICEF and Save the Children earlier this year, more than ten children per day, on average, have lost one or both of their legs in Gaza since October.
While WHO warned last week that more than 22,500 people – a quarter of those wounded in Gaza since Israel’s offensive began – have life-changing injuries, requiring rehabilitation services “now and for years to come”.
These include severe limb injuries, amputations, spinal cord trauma, traumatic brain injuries and major burns.
According to the UN health agency, only 17 of Gaza’s 36 hospitals remain partially functional, primary healthcare and community-level services are frequently suspended, due to insecurity, attacks and repeated evacuation orders.
Gaza’s only limb reconstruction and rehabilitation centre, located in the Nasser Medical Complex and supported by WHO, has been non-functional since December 2023 due to lack of supplies and staff, and was further damaged in a February 2024 raid.
