The Minister of State for International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lolwah Al-Khater expressed: “The use of everyday devices in people’s hands as ticking bombs is a horrible nightmare, and what is more horrific is this silence about it.”
In a post on X on Thursday, Al-Khater noted: “The ‘cold’ reaction or even inaction towards the #PagerAttack in #Lebanon by the international community is terrifying.”
“This is NOW NOT about Lebanon or Israel or Gaza, but it is about the new dimension that contemporary WARFARE has just entered,” she wrote, adding, “These mobile ticking bombs indiscriminately injure and kill people in public and civilian spaces, when did this become acceptable?”
The Qatari official stressed that: “Even if one accepts for the sake of the argument that modern warfare, despite its massive destructive consequences, can have some legitimate grounds, WARS MUST still be GOVERNED by a set of LAWS and GROUND RULES. Otherwise this becomes a VERY DANGEROUS SLIPPERY SLOPE, where there are no limits. And then not only state actors will resort to these methods, but also SUPRANATIONAL ACTORS.”
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Israeli occupation army carried out unconventional attacks targeting pagers and walkie-talkies in Lebanon, killing around 37 people and injuring about 3,250 others, according to official Lebanese statistics.
