Sudanese authorities announced yesterday that 401 new cholera cases were recorded in five states, including six deaths, bringing the death toll to 388 since August.
The Ministry of Health explained that these cases were recorded in the states of Kassala, El-Gedaref, the Red Sea, the Northern State and the Nile River.
The ministry reported that the number of cases in ten out of Sudan’s 18 states rose to 12,896, including 388 deaths.
On 12 August, authorities declared cholera an epidemic in the country. The spread of the disease coincides with the continued suffering of the Sudanese people due to an ongoing war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since April 2023, which has left more than 20,000 dead and nearly ten million displaced or as refugees, according to the UN.
