The US military is not offering intelligence assistance to Israel for its attacks against Lebanon, the Pentagon announced yesterday. Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh explained that there are no signs of an imminent Israeli ground invasion of Lebanon, while advising reporters to direct inquiries about Israel’s military actions and strategies to the Israeli authorities.

When asked if the US was providing support, including intelligence, for Israel’s military operations in Lebanon, Singh responded, “No. No support. When it comes to Lebanon, the US military has no involvement in Israel’s operations,” she added.

However, it remains unclear whether Singh’s comments applied to the sharing of real-time US intelligence on Hezbollah missiles potentially targeting Israel, reported Reuters.

The Israeli army said yesterday that it is preparing for a ground operation in Lebanon as air strikes continue to pound the country. The army also called up two reserve brigades to the northern border with Lebanon amid its ongoing attacks. The mobilisation of reserve forces usually signals potential preparations for ground operations.

“We are not stopping, the fighter jets have been striking all day [in Lebanon], and we are preparing for the manoeuvre,” Israeli Chief of Staff, General Herzi Halevi, said during an exercise in the north, according to an army statement.

Meanwhile, the international community has warned against Israeli strikes on Lebanon, as they raise the spectre of spreading the Gaza conflict regionally.

“You’re seeing a full-court press here from the United States government and this administration. We want to see a diplomatic solution, and we want to see it urgently,” stressed Singh.

Israel has launched waves of deadly air strikes on Lebanon since Monday morning, killing nearly 610 people and injuring over 2,000 others, according to Lebanese health authorities.
