The Israeli aggression against Yemen, Syria and Lebanon is a “dangerous escalation and a continuation of the criminal Zionist rampage in the region with blatant and open American support,” Hamas said in a statement yesterday.

“The terrorist Zionist bombing of Yemen, and its targeting of civilian facilities in the port of Hudaydah, as well as the aggression against Syria, is a dangerous escalation and an extension of the occupation’s aggression and criminality in Palestine, Lebanon and the Arab region, with blatant and open American support,” the movement said.

“We condemn the aggression and express our full solidarity with our brothers in Yemen and the Ansar Allah movement in the face of the Zionist-American aggression,” he added, in reference to the Houthi movement, while praising “their faithful position and their continued support for Palestine and defending its people against oppression.”

The Houthis announced yesterday that four people were killed and 33 were wounded in the initial toll of Israeli raids on the western Yemeni province of Hudaydah.

Since 23 September, the Israeli occupation army has been launching the “most violent and extensive” attack on Lebanon since the beginning of its confrontations with Hezbollah a year ago. The Ministry of Health said more than 1,000 Lebanese have been killed and 6,000 wounded in the past two weeks. The government said a million people – a fifth of the population – have fled their homes.

Fears of a broader regional war have been growing since Israel assassinated several leaders in Hezbollah, most notably the party’s Secretary-General, Hassan Nasrallah, in an air strike on Friday evening, in which 85 tonnes of bombs were used on a target in Haret Hreik in the southern suburbs of Beirut, the main stronghold of Hezbollah.
