The Sudanese Sovereignty Council yesterday praised Turkiye’s support for Khartoum regionally and internationally as well as its support for the Sudanese people in the humanitarian field.
This came during a meeting between Sovereignty Council member Shams El-Din Kabbashi and the Turkish Ambassador to Khartoum Fatih Yildiz in the eastern city of Port Sudan, according to a statement issued by the council.
It said Kabbashi, who is also the deputy army commander, thanked the Turkish government for its support and assistance to the Sudanese people during the war and expressed the Sudanese government’s aspiration to “strengthen relations and continue joint cooperation between the two countries in all fields, in a way that serves the interests of the peoples of the two countries.”
For his part, Yildiz said the two sides addressed the overall situation in Sudan, in addition to Turkiye’s efforts and the role it will play in supporting and assisting the Sudanese people in their current ordeal, and to continue providing humanitarian aid to those affected.
Yildiz stressed that Turkiye “places Sudan among its priorities, and aspires to advance bilateral relations between the two countries in all fields.”
On 23 September, a Turkish ship arrived at Port Sudan on the Red Sea, carrying relief aid for those affected by war, floods and rain.
The United Nations and international organisations have been calling to end the war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) which erupted in April last year and resulted in about 21,000 deaths and displaced about ten million civilians.
