The European Commission announced on Thursday an extra €30 million ($33.1m) in humanitarian aid for Lebanon, Reuters has reported. The country has been invaded by Israeli forces following months of cross-border exchanges of fire between the occupation state and Hezbollah militia.

“I am extremely concerned by the constant escalation of tensions in the Middle East,” said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. “All parties must do their outmost to protect the lives of innocent civilians.”

The extra aid is in addition to the €10m announced on 29 September. It brings the total EU humanitarian assistance to the country to over €104m this year.
