Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has confirmed that Israel, by declaring UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres persona non grata, does not want any role for the United Nations in resolving the conflict.
Peskov made the remarks in an interview with SHOT correspondent Alexander Yonashiv, where he added “Basically, we see the Israeli stance, which states that Israel will not permit any involvement from the UN. The situation in the region is agitated, and we call on all parties to exercise restraint.”
According to Peskov, reforming the UN requires a special consensus, which “is almost impossible to achieve at present on urgent issues.”
Earlier, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz announced that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres had been declared “persona non grata” and banned from entering Israel. Katz accused Guterres of failing to “unequivocally” condemn Iran’s missile attack on Israel.
Today, I have declared UN Secretary-General @antonioguterres persona non grata in Israel and banned him from entering the country.
Anyone who cannot unequivocally condemn Iran's heinous attack on Israel, as almost every country in the world has done, does not deserve to step…
