Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aati yesterday spoke to his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi and conveyed Egypt’s deep concern that the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran could expand to a regional war with dire consequences to regional peace and stability, Anadolu reported.

A statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said the officials focused on the developments in the Middle East, particularly in Lebanon, the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank and the need for “de- escalation”.

Abdel Aati reiterated “Egypt’s complete rejection of any infringement on Lebanese sovereignty, and the urgent need to achieve an immediate ceasefire and implement Security Council Resolution 1701 in all its elements.”

On 23 September, Israel launched its biggest bombing campaign on Lebanon in almost 20 years, displacing 1.2 million civilians while destroying large areas of southern Lebanon and southern boroughs of the capital. It has since announced that it will be launching a ground offensive in Lebanon.
