Israeli occupation forces have killed 78 Palestinians, arrested 1,791 others, and carried out 340 demolition and bulldozing operations in the governorate since 7 October 2023, the Palestinian Press Agency (SAFA) reported the Jerusalem Governorate saying yesterday.
In a report detailing the situation in Jerusalem over the past year, the governorate highlighted the unprecedented increase in repeated raids on Al-Aqsa Mosque. It noted that 50,475 settlers stormed the mosque, forming part of a broader plan to impose temporal and spatial divisions on the sacred site.
The report further revealed that Jerusalem has witnessed an unprecedented campaign of forced displacement of Palestinians from their historic neighbourhoods, such as Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan, which the occupation seeks to empty of their inhabitants to make way for illegal settlers.
The demolition and seizure of Palestinian homes have not ceased over the past year but have systematically doubled to create a new reality that serves the settlement project, with 340 demolition and bulldozing operations recorded in the governorate.
Additionally, the report stated that the occupation imposed a suffocating economic siege on Palestinians in Jerusalem by restricting the movement of goods and individuals, along with arbitrary measures against Jerusalemite traders and investors.
