Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has accused Israel of assassinating the Secretary-General of Lebanon’s Hezbollah group, Hassan Nasrallah, and the head of Hamas’s political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, to obstruct a ceasefire.

“They killed Hassan Nasrallah while the peace treaty was being approved, which, as the United States stated, [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu was going to accept,” Maduro said in an interview broadcasted by VTV.

Maduro added that Israel also killed Haniyeh in Tehran while a dialogue was being scheduled to take place with the Iranian president-elect.

“This is the crazy logic of the Nazi-Zionist-fascist war that aims to drown the entire region in violence,” the Venezuelan president said, explaining that the situation in the Middle East has shown that “international law and UN institutions are in ruins.”

“The International Court of Justice has shown that it is subservient to the powers of the West and Zionism. It could have stopped the massacres and genocide, but it did not do so, and it did not want to,” Maduro said.

According to the Venezuelan president, “international law has been mortally wounded, and UN institutions are being used against people.”
