Thousands of Moroccan university students took to the streets in cities across the Kingdom yesterday in solidarity with Palestine and Lebanon and to protest against the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza, the Palestinian Information Centre has reported.

The protests coincided with a one-day strike in the universities to demand an end to normalisation between Morocco and Israel. The strike was in response to a call by the National Union of Moroccan Students.

The protestors chanted solidarity slogans with Palestine and Lebanon during their marches in five major cities. They carried Palestine flags and photos of Palestinian resistance leaders including Ismail Haniyeh, the murdered former head of Hamas, and Yahya Al-Sinwar, the current head of the movement.

The strike was also to commemorate the first anniversary of the Israeli genocide against the Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip, which the occupation state has carried out with unlimited US support. The genocide has killed more than 42,000 Palestinians, mainly women and children, and wounded 98,000 others. An estimated 11,000 are missing, presumed dead, under the rubble of their homes and other civilian infrastructure destroyed by Israel.
