Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez called on the international community to ban arms exports to Israel as soon as possible.
Sanchez announced in a press conference following his meeting with Pope Francis in the Vatican: “I do believe that it is urgent that, in light of everything that is happening in the Middle East, the international community stops exporting weapons to the government of Israel.”
According to the prime minister, the Spanish government believes it is important: “Not to contribute in one way or another to the escalation of violence and to the war and its expansion in Gaza, the West Bank or, in this case, to Lebanon.”
Sanchez reiterated his strong condemnation of any violation or attack on international humanitarian law.
The prime minister expressed his great concern over the Israeli bombing of the headquarters of the United Nations peacekeeping force in Lebanon.
