Indonesian President Joko Widodo yesterday condemned Israel’s attack on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon, which injured two Indonesians, the German Press Agency (DPA) reported.

The soldiers were serving as part of the UNIFIL force, established in 1978 to monitor the cessation of hostilities in the region and ensure the security of the Lebanese-Israeli border.

In a statement published on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel, Joko said: “We strongly condemn this attack. Peacekeepers should not be targeted, yet they were injured in this incident.”

On 10 October, two Indonesian UNIFIL soldiers were injured falling from an observation tower after an Israeli tank fired towards it.
