The head of the Palestinian National Council, Rawhi Fattouh, has said that Israel’s main goal is to displace Palestinians to Egypt and Jordan. Fattouh made his comment in a speech on Tuesday during the Conference on the Future of Palestine held at the AK Party Congress Centre in Ankara.
Fattouh expressed his deep gratitude to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for taking a clear stance against the Israeli genocide in Palestine and Lebanon. He stressed Turkiye’s constant support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.
“The right-wing and Zionist Israeli government is committing genocide and crimes against humanity,” said Fattouh, who also reminded the audience out that the Palestinians are suffering from hunger and thirst.
By forcing Palestinians to go to Jordan and Egypt, he added, the occupation state hopes to go one step further than the 1948 Nakba. Israel’s expansionist policies have absolute support and immunity from the US, he warned.
The Palestinian official stressed the need to stop the genocide unconditionally, get the Israeli army to withdraw from the occupied Palestinian territories, release prisoners held by both sides, and organise an international peace conference.
With US support, Israel has been waging a genocidal war on Gaza since 7 October last year. It has killed or wounded at least 150,000 Palestinians, most of them children and women. An estimated 11,000 are missing, presumed dead, amid massive destruction of civilian infrastructure. Tens of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza face starvation due to restrictions on aid deliveries imposed by the occupation forces.
