Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati said his country would remain committed to UN Resolution 1701 to achieve stability.

Resolution 1701 is a mechanism that can achieve long-term stability on the borders and Lebanon adheres to implementing it, especially with regard to the deployment of the army in the south, Mikati said in a statement reported by the country’s National News Agency (NNA) yesterday.

He stressed that a diplomatic solution was still on the table to address the current situation in the country, calling for an end to the ongoing Israeli aggression that violates Lebanon’s sovereignty by land, sea and air.

Asked whether a fresh UN resolution would be issued by the UN, Mikati ruled out any alternative to Resolution 1701, but he said new understandings could be reached that contribute to the effective implementation of this resolution.
