Egyptian Minister of Justice, Adnan Al-Fangari, has ordered the referral of 48 judges for investigation following their complaints about deteriorating financial conditions.
This decision follows a report submitted by the Director of the Judicial Inspection Department, Wafae Absakhroun, which highlighted discussions among judges in “judicial groups” on social media platforms, where they expressed grievances over their financial hardships and increasing burdens.
In these discussions, judges criticised the loss of their privileges and raised concerns over the erosion of their financial rights.
A judicial source revealed details of the crisis, which was triggered by complaints regarding the Supreme Judicial Council’s failure to uphold the principle of equality in salaries and financial privileges among members of judicial bodies.
The principle of equality was established three years ago under the direct supervision of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, in his capacity as head of the Supreme Judicial Council.
