Israel has “failed” to achieve the goals of its war in Lebanon, far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has claimed.

“The war’s main goal was to return displaced Israelis to their homes in the north,” said Ben-Gvir. “In order to leave Lebanon, we must have our own security belt. We have already seen it, that we must not trust anyone but ourselves.”

Earlier, Reuters news agency quoted Israeli television as saying that the security cabinet approved the ceasefire agreement with Lebanon. So too did Israel’s Channel 12, reported Al Jazeera news network.

Israeli Army Radio said that Washington would be informed of the final approval of the ceasefire after the cabinet ratified it, said Ma’an News Agency. The ceasefire came into effect at 4am local time today.
