The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, called on the international community yesterday to take urgent action to save the Palestinians in the northern Gaza Strip, which has been subjected to genocide and deliberate starvation by the occupation state since 5 October.

“The terrorist Israeli army continues its military operation in the northern Gaza Strip for the 55th consecutive day, committing the most atrocious brutal crimes against our people, especially in the north but also across the Gaza Strip in general,” said Hamas. “The enemy continues to commit crimes, including killing civilians, arresting dozens of people, targeting hospitals in the northern Gaza Strip and medical staff, disrupting civil defence and continuing to besiege Jabalia and Beit Lahia and killing everyone who leaves them.”

The siege of Beit Lahia and killing of civilians in particular is intensifying, the resistance movement pointed out. “The enemy [Israel] is bombing and targeting Beit Lahia nonstop and is demanding that our people evacuate and leave it.”

Hamas accused the US administration of “full responsibility for the killings and the war of genocide” against the Palestinians in Gaza. It called on the international community and independent nations to “take urgent action to save our people from the genocide and the starvation imposed by the fascist enemy regime.”

The movement also urged international and humanitarian organisations to “continue to put pressure on the Israeli occupation state to get humanitarian aid into the territory and save northern Gaza and the rest of the enclave from deliberate starvation.”

The Israeli occupation forces began another ground invasion of the northern Gaza Strip in particular on 5 October, under the pretext of “preventing Hamas from regaining its strength in the area.” However, Palestinians believe that Israel wants to occupy the northern Gaza Strip and turn it into a buffer zone after displacing its residents. Illegal settlers are already talking about building settlements in the territory. All of Israel’s settlements are illegal under international law, a fact reiterated by the International Court of Justice in July.
