Hamas yesterday praised the Lebanese Hezbollah movement for “supporting the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian resistance” in confronting the Israeli aggression.

“We commend the pivotal role played by the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon, in support of the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian resistance, and the great sacrifices made by Hezbollah and its leadership, led by the late Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, in addition to the steadfastness of the brotherly Lebanese people and their solidarity with the Palestinians in this tragedy,” Hamas said in a statement.

It added that Israeli “enemy’s” acceptance of the ceasefire agreement without fulfilling the conditions it had set earlier, “is an important step in shattering [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu’s illusions of changing the Middle East map by force, and defeating the resistance forces or disarming them.”

The statement stressed that the ceasefire agreement would not have been possible without the resistance’s steadfastness and the popular support around it, adding that Hamas is confident that the resistance axis will continue to support the Palestinian people and their battle by all possible means.

Hamas has also reiterated its commitment to cooperating with any efforts to conclude a ceasefire in Gaza within the agreed upon national conditions including the Israeli occupation forces’ withdrawal from Gaza, allowing displaced Palestinian families to return to their homes, and the completion of a comprehensive prisoner exchange deal.

A US-French brokered ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah went into effect in the early hours of yesterday morning.
