The ceasefire between the occupation state and Lebanon is “an important achievement that shatters Israel’s efforts to reshape the Middle East based on its illusions,” the Islamic Jihad movement in Palestine has said.
“We consider the ceasefire agreement to be an important achievement that breaks the path of arrogance and brutality and efforts to create a Middle East tailored to [Israel’s] illusions at the expense of the peoples of our nation, our sanctities and our rights in our homelands,” said the movement. “We value the steadfastness and sacrifices of the Lebanese people, who have shown unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people in the face of the Zionist occupation and its brutal aggression.”
The ceasefire agreement between Hezbollah and Israel came into effect at 4 am on Wednesday, local time, ending the fighting between the two sides that has been ongoing since 8 October, 2023, and which has escalated since September.
Israel has killed 3,823 Lebanese citizens over the past two months, and wounded 15,859, including a large number of children and women, while displacing 1.4 million people. Most of the victims and displaced persons were recorded since 23 September, according to Anadolu news agency’s monitoring of official Lebanese data that had been announced as of Tuesday evening.
The ceasefire comes into effect as Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip continues, having killed or wounded 150,000 Palestinians, most of them children and women. More than 11,000 are missing, presumed dead, amid massive destruction and starvation in one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.
