The World Health Organisation (WHO) chief said another 17 patients from Gaza were evacuated to Jordan on Wednesday for specialised medical treatment, Anadolu Agency reports.

“Six of the patients require cancer treatment, and 11 need treatment for war injuries,” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on X on Thursday, adding that they were accompanied by 17 people.

According to Tedros, 12 of the patients will continue receiving care in the US.

Thanking Jordan and the US for their support, he said: “We urge for all corridors from Gaza to be utilised to ensure medical evacuations can happen smoothly and quickly — thousands of patients are still waiting for specialist health care.”

Last week, Tedros said at least 12,000 patients need urgent specialist health care outside Gaza as medical evacuations receive green flags rarely, especially after the closure of the Rafah border.
