The Free Syria Army, a faction supported by the United States, yesterday, launched an operation targeting the cities of Al-Bukamal and Al-Mayadin in Deir Ez-Zor province, eastern Syria.

In the past, the United States has carried out multiple attacks on Iran-backed groups and Syrian regime forces in these areas.

Iran-backed groups had previously used Al-Bukamal, near the Iraqi border, and Al-Mayadin as their strongholds. The region was also frequently used by Iraq’s Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) to enter Syria.
