US President-elect Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the Syrians should manage their own affairs, because the United States will not “interfere”, Anadolu has reported.
“What is happening in Syria is not a priority for the US,” Trump told French magazine Paris Match. He added that ending the war between Russia and Ukraine will be a priority for his administration, which will take over officially on 20 January.
Trump suggested that resolving the current crises in the Middle East is easier than resolving the crisis between Russia and Ukraine. “There are many crises in the world. We have received news from Syria recently, they will have to manage their own affairs because we will not interfere. France will not interfere either,” he added.
Bashar Al-Assad, Syria’s president for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia after anti-regime groups took control of Damascus early on Sunday morning, ending Baath Party rule in the country after 61 years, 53 of which were under the Assad dynasty.
