An Iranian MP and senior commander of the Revolutionary Guards, Esmail Kowsari, revealed a decline in communication between former Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, Iran, and the “resistance” in recent months, Sputnik reported citing an interview he gave to Entekhab newspaper.
“A week before the fall, officials from various countries visited Bashar Al-Assad, attempting to buy him off with money, but he rejected their offers,” Kowsari said in the interview.
“Assad, in his weakened position, was unable to gain the military’s support,” he added.
Kowsari explained: “Until the very last moments, Iran maintained communication with Bashar Al-Assad. However, his close associates, including the Syrian prime minister and some military leaders, created obstacles. Additionally, Turkiye failed to fulfil its promises, which ultimately led to Assad’s inability to command the military.”
The Iranian MP also claimed that “control over Syria now appears to be in the hands of the Zionist entity, the United States, and their agents who have occupied the country.”
