Human rights organisations have warned against the continuation of the current security crackdown in Jenin and its refugee camp in the northern occupied West Bank.
In a statement issued yesterday, the Palestinian Human Rights Organisations Council urged for the immediate cessation of the campaign in Jenin camp and the initiation of a serious and responsible national dialogue to address internal Palestinian issues.
The council called for the respect of human dignity and the preservation of freedom. It also urged all parties to avoid acts of vengeance and incitement. It stressed the need for law enforcement agencies to adhere to regulations, instructions and laws and not allow individual actions that contradict official declarations and guidelines.
The council also called for a thorough and genuine investigation into footage circulating on social media, which appear to show the acts of torture against detainees.
The statement stressed the importance of holding those involved in such actions accountable in accordance with the law. It also demanded an end to the summoning of citizens by security agents over their right to freedom of opinion and expression.
