The Sudanese army announced yesterday evening that it had regained control of Tambul town in eastern Al-Jazira state, marking the second such victory in 48 hours, Anadolu reported.
In a statement, the army said: “Our armed forces, with the support of auxiliary forces and popular resistance [volunteers], have established control over the town of Tambul.”
The statement added that its forces had “cleansed the town of the rebel militia [referring to the Rapid Support Forces], inflicting heavy losses on them in lives and equipment.”
There has been no response from the paramilitary RSF.
Tambul is the second town in Al-Jazira state to come under army control within 48 hours, following the recapture of its capital, Wad Madani.
On Saturday, the army announced its entry into Wad Madani, approximately a year after losing it to the RSF.
