Israel has transferred and installed military equipment in the demilitarised zone in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, according to the army on Tuesday.

“As part of the logistical effort, equipment was provided to the forces to withstand stormy weather conditions, uniquely suited to the severe weather in the area,” announced the army on social media. The equipment includes temporary structures with an additional layer of insulation, heating equipment, generators and a water heating system.”

The occupation army added that the “comprehensive” move also included a unique medical building for treating cold-related injuries, as well as kitchens and a dining hall to provide hot meals for the soldiers.

The Israeli army occupied the buffer zone in the Golan Heights in early December, violating the 1974 Disengagement Agreement with Syria in a move that expanded Israel’s control over the Syrian territory, most of which Israel has occupied since the June 1967 war.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed last month that the seizure of the demilitarised zone was “temporary”, without specifying a date for the army’s withdrawal from the area.
