The French Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that the forced displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip is “unacceptable.” The comment was made in a statement expressing France’s position on US President Donald Trump’s call to displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to Egypt and Jordan.

Trump told journalists on Saturday that it is necessary to “just clean out” the Gaza Strip and resettle Palestinians in Jordan and Egypt, citing the lack of habitable places in Gaza following Israel’s genocide lasting more than 15 months and carried out with US military, financial, political and diplomatic support.

The ministry explained that such displacement of Palestinians from Gaza constitutes not only a serious violation of international law, but is also a serious obstacle to the two-state solution. It added that displacement would be a “destabilising factor” for France’s “close partners,” Egypt and Jordan. “Gaza’s future lies with a future Palestinian state.”

On 19 January, a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and a prisoner exchange agreement between Hamas and Israel came into effect, mediated by Qatar, Egypt and the US.
