Saudi’s Al Hilal Football Club has announced the termination of Brazilian player Neymar Jr’s contract.

In a brief post on X, the club stated: “Al Hilal Club Company and Neymar Jr have agreed to terminate their contractual relationship by mutual consent.”

“The club expresses its thanks and appreciation to Neymar for what he has provided throughout his career at Al-Hilal, and wish the player success in his career,” it added.

Al Hilal did not disclose any financial details regarding the termination of the Brazilian star’s contract.

Taking to X, Neymar said: “To Saudi, thank you for giving me and my family a new home and new experiences […] I will be following your journey ahead as a club and a country towards 2034.”

The decision to end the contract comes after 18 months, which have been overshadowed by Neymar’s serious left knee injury.

The all-time leading scorer for Brazil’s national team and the world’s most expensive player joined Al Hilal in August 2023 from French club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). The deal was for two seasons, valued at around $98.6 million in 2023, and earns an annual salary of around $100 million.

Neymar, a former UEFA Champions League winner with Barcelona, has played just seven matches for Al Hilal, scoring one goal and providing three assists.
