Some 81,576 Syrians have returned to their country in a “voluntary, safe and dignified” manner since the fall of the Assad regime in December, Turkiye’s Interior Minister, Ali Yerlikaya, revealed yesterday.

“Turkiye has provided shelter for Syrians who fled the oppression of the former regime and offered them all necessary services,” he added.

He stated that the number of Syrians returning to their country is expected to rise at the end of the academic year and with the arrival of summer. Additionally, he announced his intention to visit Damascus soon, accompanied by officials from the ministry.

Yerlikaya stated that there are 4,121,663 foreigners living in Turkiye legally at the moment.
