UN Tourism Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili and Moroccan Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor signed an agreement to establish UN Tourism’s first African office in Rabat, Morocco’s capital.

Pololikashvili and Ammor met in Marrakech on Tuesday. The UN Tourism office will support innovation and investment, according to a Moroccan Tourism Ministry statement.

The office will pave the way for increased cooperation between African countries and UN Tourism, as well as stimulating Morocco’s own tourism industry.

UN Tourism’s office will organise capacity-building courses and workshops for stakeholders from the public and private sectors.

The office’s mission is to revitalise Africa’s tourism sector, the statement added.
