Syria's largest Palestinian refugee camp lies in ruins

While life in Syria is gradually returning to normal following the end of the 61-year Baath Party rule and the overthrow of the Assad family's 53-year rule, the Yarmouk refugee camp near Damascus remains a devastated ghost town. Now depopulated, Yarmoud was once the largest Palestinian refugee camp in Syria before the Syrian civil war broke out in 2011. It was one of the hardest-hit areas and the site of intense fighting, which led to a mass exodus of its population of nearly 200,000. By the end of 2018, it was estimated that only 100-200 residents remained in the camp which continues to lie in ruins today.
