The Israel State Prosecutor announced on Sunday the opening of a criminal investigation of Sara Netanyahu, the wife of the prime minister, following accusations made against her by an opposition member of the Knesset.

The Public Prosecution department said that a criminal investigation has been opened on suspicion that Mrs Netanyahu committed criminal offences, reported Al Arabiya. The Israeli police are conducting an investigation in cooperation with the Cybercrimes Department of the Public Prosecution.

The investigation is being opened over allegations that Sarah Netanyahu sought to intimidate a witness and interfere in the corruption case against her husband. Labour Party MK Naama Lazmi accused Benjamin Netanyahu’s wife of trying to intimidate a witness in her husband’s corruption trial.

Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara and State Attorney Amit Aisman announced on 26 December that they had ordered an investigation on suspicion of witness harassment and obstruction of justice, following the “Uvda” report.

The Ynet website said that the investigation is regarding the central witness in Case 1000, Hadas Klein, who filed a complaint against Sara Netanyahu after the programme aired.
