An alliance of Palestinian National and Islamic Forces has held the international community responsible for Israel’s escalating aggression against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. In a statement issued yesterday, the alliance which includes factions within and outside the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO), said the international community has failed to take deterrent measures to stop Israel’s aggression and called on the UN Security Council to “shoulder its responsibilities” and stop the Israeli aggression to establish peace and security.

The alliance stressed that US President Donald Trump’s threats to displace Palestinians “will not succeed in the face of our people’s steadfastness, resistance and adherence to their land, rights, and constants”, most notably the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with full sovereignty, with Jerusalem as its capital, and ensuring the right of return of refugees.

It said it valued Egypt and Jordan’s firm rejection of the displacement plans, stressing the importance of intensifying international and Arab efforts to “reject and condemn this policy”.

It also called for confronting “American attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause and undermine Palestinian representation within the PLO framework, the sole legitimate representative of our people and leader of their struggle and fight for freedom and independence.”

The alliance welcomed the formation of the Hague Group by nine countries in the Global South “in support of Palestine to ensure compliance with international law”.
