Two Egyptian security sources have said that President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi is expected to travel to Riyadh on Thursday to discuss an Arab plan regarding Gaza, the London-based newspaper Al-Quds aAl-Arabi reported.

Arab countries are set to discuss a plan for rebuilding the Gaza Strip after the war, possibly as an alternative to US President Donald Trump’s proposal to develop the territory under American control.

According to the sources, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, the UAE and Qatar are scheduled to review and discuss the Arab plan in Riyadh before presenting it at the emergency Arab summit, which is set to take place in Cairo on 4 March.

An Arab leaders’ meeting, including representatives from Jordan, the UAE, and Qatar, is expected to be held on Friday in Saudi Arabia, which is leading regional efforts to counter Trump’s plan. However, some sources indicated that the date has not yet been confirmed.

Arab states were alarmed by Trump’s plan to “displace” Palestinians from Gaza and forcibly displace most of them to Jordan and Egypt while transforming the territory into the “Riviera of the Middle East.” Cairo and Amman immediately rejected the idea, and most countries in the region viewed it as highly destabilising.
