Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reiterated Ankara’s position of strongly and relentlessly supporting the oppressed and affected Palestinians affected by Israel’s genocide in the Gaza Strip. Erdogan made his remarks in a speech on Wednesday before his Justice and Development Party’s parliamentary bloc in the Turkish capital Ankara.

The Turkish leader added that during his Asian tour, which included Indonesia, Malaysia and Pakistan last week, he discussed regional issues, most notably the developments in the Gaza Strip and Syria. He explained that during his meetings and discussions there, he stressed that he would not allow “the inhumane and illegal plan that aims to displace Palestinians from Gaza” to go ahead. He also noted that these displacement attempts, planned by the US administration, come with the encouragement of Israel.

US President Donald Trump revealed his country’s intention to seize Gaza during a press conference on 4 February with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House. Trump’s plan to “own” Gaza after displacing the Palestinians has been widely rejected by Palestinians, Arabs and the international community, while it was praised by politicians in Israel.

Based on Trump’s plan, the Israeli government has already started to prepare a plan that it claims will aim to have Palestinians leave Gaza “voluntarily”.

Since 25 January, Trump has been promoting a plan to displace Palestinians from Gaza to neighbouring countries such as Egypt and Jordan, which have both rejected his proposal.
