Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani yesterday called for the completion of procedures to lift the European ban on Iraqi Airways, in line with the plan developed by the committee responsible for meeting the requirements to remove the ban, DPA reported.

During his meeting with a delegation from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), led by the association’s Vice President, Kamel Al-Awadhi, Al-Sudani stressed the importance of prioritising this issue and closely monitoring the work of the committee in charge of lifting the ban.

He urged the provision of all necessary support to facilitate the committee’s work and fulfil all requirements. He also emphasised the need to simultaneously develop the airline’s infrastructure, comply with international standards, and keep up with advancements in the aviation sector.

Al-Awadhi underlined the significance of completing the process, noting that progress in the corrective action plan had reached 56 per cent, indicating that the project is on track according to the timeline set.

The discussions also covered Iraq’s efforts to enhance the operations of the airline, introduce automation across all departments, strengthen the company’s capabilities, improve staff skills, and elevate the quality of services provided to passengers and cargo transport.
