The Sudanese army said yesterday that it has “broken the siege on the city of El-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State.
In a statement on X, Sudanese army spokesman Nabil Abdullah said: “The armed forces in the White Nile state have managed to clear the city of Al-Qutaynah and destroy the Rapid Support Forces militia.”
Al-Qutaynah is located around 50 kilometres south of Khartoum and holds a strategic position on the road connecting the capital with the southern and western parts of the country.
In recent weeks, fighting has escalated as the Sudanese army advanced in Khartoum against the RSF. The army has successfully broken the siege imposed by the militia on its general command headquarters in the capital.
The military also announced the recapture of the Signal Corps headquarters and the expulsion of the RSF from the Al-Jaili oil refinery. Additionally, it has regained control of Wad Madani, the capital of Al-Jazira state.
