US Central Command (CENTCOM) hosted a conference in Qatar over the weekend, it said today.

Commander General Michael Kurilla gathered commanders, leaders and staff from CENTCOM components and subordinate commands at the Al Udeid Air Base to discuss the current state of operations.

Security in the CENTCOM area of responsibility, operational environment, opportunities to strengthen security cooperation, efforts to counter violent extremist organisations, such as Daesh, and the current strategic opportunities in the region, were on the agenda, according to CENTCOM.

Separately, Kurilla met Qatar’s Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Lieutenant General Jassim Al Mannai and Qatar’s Air Force and Air Defence Commanders to discuss strengthening the US-Qatar military-to-military partnership.
