The State of Kuwait submitted a written plea to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Friday to issue a legal opinion regarding the Israeli occupation’s obligation to guarantee the delivery of supplies to the Palestinians.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed in a statement received by Quds Press that the State of Kuwait, represented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its diplomatic mission in The Hague, submitted a written plea on Friday regarding the advisory opinion requested by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly Resolution 79/232.

The resolution, adopted on 19 December, 2024, in New York, seeks a legal opinion on the obligations of Israel as the occupying power in relation to the presence and activities of the UN, other international organisations and third states within the occupied Palestinian territories.

The ICJ’s advisory opinion aims to address several critical issues, including ensuring the unimpeded delivery of essential supplies, services and humanitarian aid to the Palestinian civilian population, as well as supporting the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.

The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry added that its pleading: “Highlighted Israel’s violations of the UN Charter and the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations, particularly concerning the safety of UN personnel and the protection of its facilities in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.”

It added that the pleading: “Emphasised the necessity for Israel to adhere to international law and international humanitarian law and to cease its actions in the Gaza Strip, which it described as facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.”

The ministry expressed its confidence that: “The ICJ would give due consideration to its pleading, as well as those submitted by other nations and relevant international organisations, to facilitate the provision of essential services and humanitarian aid to Palestinians and to ensure respect for the rights of international organisations operating in the occupied territories.”

Kuwait reiterated its: “Firm and unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and all international efforts aimed at securing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.”
