Qatar submitted a memorandum to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), in which it affirmed the need for Tel Aviv’s commitment to allowing the United Nations (UN) and other international organisations to operate in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories.

This came in a written memorandum submitted by Qatar to the ICJ requesting an advisory opinion from the court regarding Israel’s obligations regarding the presence and activities of the UN, other international organisations and third states.

The Foreign Ministry conveyed in a statement on Friday that Qatar submitted a written memorandum regarding a request for an advisory opinion on UN General Assembly resolution 79/232 on 19 December, 2024, entitled “Request for an advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice on the obligations of Israel in relation to the presence and activities of the United Nations, other international organisations and third States.”

According to the statement: “The State of Qatar stressed that Israel must commit to allowing the UN and other international organisations, particularly the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and other humanitarian organisations, to operate in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories.”

It also stressed the need: “To adhere to respecting and protecting the property of the UN and other international organisations, especially schools, medical facilities, transportation and water facilities, as well as their personnel, especially those working in humanitarian and medical fields.”
